In 2007, The Trust for the Americas incorporated a local office in Colombia under the name La Fundación Trust for the Americas. The purpose of the Trust Colombia office is to implement large scale programs in support to the Colombian government and in cooperation with the private sector and international cooperation agencies. All programs are carried in collaboration with the OAS Mission to Support the Peace Process (MAAP/OAS)..
Transparency and Democracy- Human Rights Program.
The initiative is made of three main components:
Strengthening Civil Society. The Trust provides local NGOs in the Pacific Coast, training and technical assistance in project management, financial planning and implementation of social programs. The Trust also provides seed funding to local NGOs involved in the implementation of small scale initiatives in the region.
Business and Human Rights. This component provides the private sector with the necessary tools to incorporate human rights practices in the workplace. It is implemented in partnership with the Colombian Global Compact, The German Cooperation Agency (GTZ), The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), The United States Agency for International Development. Eight Colombian Universities also participate in the program.
Peace and Reconciliation. The Trust organizes forums and open dialogues on issues related to public policy as applied to the peace process and the impact of demobilization of former paramilitary and guerrilla combatants. The program is implemented in Guajira, Cesar, Norte de Santander, Santander, Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Valle del Cauca, Nariño and Putumayo.
POETA Accessible. The program operates technology centers for people with disabilities in Manizales, Bogotá (2), Cali, Cartagena (2), Pasto, Tibú, and Casanare. http://fsp.trustfortheamericas.org/
