To foster an entrepreneurial mindset and advance economic opportunities for Jamaican youth, the NCB I.C.O.N. Lab held its first Pitch Tank Competition. This space provided 19 innovative minds with the opportunity to present their creative ideas to a panel of judges, in the hope of receiving up to USD 1,000 in seed funding to take their ventures to the next level.

The Trust for the Americas, through its Democratizing Innovation in the Americas (DIA) Program, and in partnership with the Citi Foundation, has selected ADASEC Dominicana as the organization that will implement the new DIA Innovation Lab in the Dominican Republic. This will be the third lab launched in the Caribbean, thanks to this collaboration.

The Trust for the Americas has partnered with Fortinet®, a global leader in comprehensive, integrated and automated cybersecurity solutions, to reduce the gap of trained professionals in the cybersecurity industry in Latin America and the Caribbean, by offering Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) courses at The Trust’s DIA Innovation Labs. The alliance will provide DIA Lab participants with training in four key areas: AI-Driven Security Operations, Dynamic Cloud Security, Security Driven Networking, and Zero Trust Network Access.

Mercado Libre was selected as the winner of the 2021 CCA Award for its efforts to promote digital transformation, employment creation, financial inclusion, and economic growth. They did this with the least possible environmental impact. Instituto Natura and Fundación ManpowerGroup received honorable mentions for their work in the region.

La Alcaldía de Itagüi se sumó a The Trust for the Americas para impulsar el empoderamiento de las mujeres en el Municipio. Como parte de las estrategias de colaboración, este 27 de octubre se inauguró la Sala TIC de las mujeres de Itagüí, en la Casa de la Mujer. “Este es un espacio de oportunidades, empoderamiento y aprendizaje para las mujeres itagüiseñas”, indicó el nuevo socio local de la Franquicia Social POETA.

Colombia

En el marco del Proyecto “Fortaleciendo las Capacidades del Gobierno de Costa Rica y de las comunidades de acogida para la recepción de migrantes y refugiados” la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) reconoció el trabajo realizado por The Trust for the Americas en capacitar a mujeres nicaragüenses refugiadas en Costa Rica.

The DIA Lab in Trinidad and Tobago celebrated its first graduation ceremony, in which 46 young Trinbagonians were recognized for completing the DIA training program, focused on digital and entrepreneurial courses.

The Trust for the Americas, en alianza con GovTech Hub, ha dado a conocer las startups seleccionadas que recibirán 7,000 USD en fondos semilla para la implementación de proyectos tecnológicos, con el fin de impulsar servicios públicos que mejoren la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos. Esta subvención se desprende del “GovTech Bootcamp Costa Rica 2021”.
